Lab Manager at the Cancer Dormancy & Immunity Lab

Champalimaud Foundation (Fundação D. Anna de Sommer Champalimaud e Dr. Carlos Montez Champalimaud), a private, non-profit research institution in Lisbon, Portugal, is looking for a Lab Manager to join our team at the Champalimaud Research Program.

The Cancer Dormancy & Immunity Lab, led by Dr. Ana Luisa Correia, at Champalimaud Foundation, Lisbon, Portugal, invites applications for the position of Lab Manager.

Our lab aims to understand tissue-specific mechanisms that regulate breast cancer dormancy, and find ways to effectively target dormant cancer cells and prevent metastatic disease. The position offers excellent opportunities for operational management and technical and scientific responsibilities. It is suited for a very organised and dedicated individual, with a positive can-do attitude, and enthusiastic to assist the team with day-to-day operations.

Your responsibilities

• General laboratory management (orders, stocks, databases, etc);
• Aid in preparation of animal protocols, responsible for management and oversight of lab’s animal colonies;
• Management and coordination of clinical sample processing pipeline;
• Work with other lab members on collaborative projects.

• Bachelor's or Master’s degree in a Basic Science or related field;
• Previous research experience.

Specific Requirements

Preferred Qualifications

• 1 or more years of research experience in immunology or cancer biology;
• Experience in lab management;
• Experience working with mouse models (FELASA-equivalent license) and clinical samples;
• Strong spoken and written competency in English. Working competence in Portuguese is a positive asset, or the willingness to learn.

Desirable skills that will also be considered

Eligibility criteria

• National, Foreign or Stateless candidate(s) who hold a BSc or Master’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedicine, Bioengineering or other related scientific areas and a scientific and professional curriculum that reveals a profile appropriate to the activity to be developed;
• In case of PhD degrees awarded by foreign higher education institutions, the degree must comply with the provisions of Decree-Law No. 341/2007, of 12th of October, and all formalities established therein must be fulfilled by the deadline for application submission.

Selection process

• Candidates will be screened to determine eligibility based on minimum qualifications listed in call. Candidates meeting minimum requirements will be scored according to the required application materials: Relative weighting: CV: 40%, motivation letter: 30%, and interview: 30%;
• If provided, and if shortlisted, candidates’ referees may be contacted and may count towards evaluation.

Notification of results

After being notified, candidates will have 10 working days to present a claim for redress by email (careers@research.fchampalimaud.org). If no claim is received by the Champalimaud Foundation, the Evaluation Committee's decision will become definitive.
