We are looking for a pragmatic, hands-on Pipeline Manager to lead and oversee all pipeline design and pipelaying activities for BWE from our Lisbon base. This role covers the full pipeline lifecycle from conceptual design, through procurement, and into campaign preparation and offshore execution.
Unlike traditional EPCI project models, we aim to operate with portable pipelaying systems deployed on chartered vessels. The successful candidate must be fully aligned with this lean, modular, and operations-driven approach.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the end-to-end pipelaying process (rigid and flexible), from concept to offshore execution.
- Supervise and coordinate pipeline design, procurement, and installation campaigns.
- Define and review pipeline routing, mechanical design, materials, insulation, protection, and trenching/backfilling strategies.
- Understand and coordinate Flow assurance studies.
- Lead the engineering and planning for pipelaying using portable lay systems (S-lay, J-lay).
- Interface with vessel owners, chartering teams, and onboard supervisors to ensure safe and efficient deployment.
- Ensure Zap-Lok, welding-based, and other pipe-joining methods are properly integrated into planning and execution.
- Contribute to risk assessments, installation procedures, method statements, and project schedules.
- Maintain clear reporting on project progress, deviations, and critical issues to senior management.
- Work closely with supply chain to procure pipes, joints, ancillaries, and equipment in a cost-effective, timely manner.
- Participate in offshore operations as needed.
Requirements
Profile & Qualifications:
- Degree in Mechanical, Marine, or Offshore Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 15 years of experience in pipelaying activities, including rigid and flexible pipelines.
- Strong knowledge of international pipeline standards (DNV, API, ASME)
- Strong knowledge of S-lay and J-lay methods, and portable pipelay systems.
- Familiarity with Zap-Lok, automatic welding, and manual welding techniques for offshore environments.
- Prior experience with lean organizational setups, modular installation campaigns, and non-EPCI project frameworks is essential.
- Demonstrated ability to work in fast-paced, cost-sensitive, and results-oriented environments.
- Familiarity with brownfield integration and late-life field management is an advantage.
- Fluent in English (Portuguese or French is a plus).
- Willingness to travel and join offshore campaigns during critical phases.
