Job requirements
As a result of the growth of our Portugal team, Aptia has exciting new opportunities for a Team Manager to join the Specialist Operations team in Portugal.
In this new role, you will oversee a new team of analysts and accountants across the Pension Payroll and Fund Accounting (PFA) functions.
This position will initially be on-site from our Lisbon offices, with hybrid working opportunities after the initial onboarding period.
Here’s what you’ll be doing:
Pension Fund Accounting:
Manage your own portfolio of medium-high complexity PFA clients, from planning, preparation and peer review through to audit and completion, in accordance with agreed deadlines.
Ensure efficient and accurate preparation of accounting information for clients in compliance with regulations and aligned to service level agreements
Preparation of ad hoc financial information as requested
Be accountable for the standard and quality of work undertaken by reporting team members
Pension Payroll:
Joining and contributing to regular Product Design Groups for our payroll platforms, oPen2, Propay and Midas Pay and leading ad hoc projects within the payroll team such as improvements to system functionality and process improvements for our specialist clients.
Overall Management Duties:
Ensure business procedural requirements are followed including accurate time recording, use of standard templates, peer review, e-filing, work in progress and mandatory training
Producing management information as required such as capacity planning
Collaboration with internal learning academy on team development needs and continuous upskilling
Communication of best practice and technical updates to wider teams as required
Annual whole team workload allocations
Training and coaching of team members to ensure motivation and productivity
Conducting regular 1:1s and performance review conversations
Contributing to a culture of best practice and continuous improvement through internal management forums
Here’s what we’re looking for:
Substantial previous experience working in an accounting or payroll environment, or within the broader financial services industry
Prior experience managing a team, including driving performance and coaching and developing others
Strong technical accounting knowledge or Payroll administration expertise
Computer literate in Word/Excel/Accounts software
Strong relationship building skills both internally and externally with clients and professional bodies as required (including Trustees, investment managers, consultants and actuaries)
