The team
The Group Internal Audit team provides independent and objective assurance and advice to the Group Audit Committee, and to the Boards of Directors of the companies within the Group, over the processes and systems of control and risk management operating in the Group. IA’s scope covers all aspects of the Group and its activities and liaises closely with other monitoring functions across the Group, including Group Compliance and Group Risk.
The Group Audit team is based in London, York, Luxembourg, Lisbon and the US. The team is supplemented with additional co-source when required.

Our work adheres to the Institute of Internal Auditors’ (IIA) mandatory guidance including the Definition of Internal Auditing, the Code of Ethics and the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing (‘the Standards’). We also adhere to guidance issued by the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors in the UK (CIIA): Effective Internal Audit in the Financial Services Sector.
What you’ll be doing
As a part of a small but dynamic team, you will conduct mostly Technology and Operational audits across the Hiscox Group in line with the Audit Plan. This will be through working with other members of the team, alone on some reviews or with co-source. You will also provide technology support to other audits being delivered.
The role covers all aspects of the successful delivery of audits, including:
- ensuring the successful and timely completion of reviews, from initial scoping and planning through to reporting and follow up of actions and recommendations. You will take on the lead role on several technology or operational focused audits, responsible for their end to end delivery, as well as supporting other team members with their audits;
- making effective and pragmatic recommendations to address issues and to add value to the business;
- working with and supporting other team members;
- effective stakeholder and relationship management at all levels;
- being an active contributor in developing the Internal Audit’s planning and strategy in the Technology space, and to its continued development.
- helping to build and maintain Internal Audit’s presence and reputation across the Group.
Outside the Audit Plan, you may be asked to conduct specific reviews or to take on special projects. In this position you will assist the IT Audit Manager with the development of the IT strategy and enhance the IT audit methodology. You will also be expected to take on additional responsibilities to support the Group Chief Auditor and other team members as required.
Specification
- Must be degree qualified with a professional accountancy, audit or internal audit qualification, with IT Audit qualifications (or progressing towards completing a qualification)
- Knowledge and experience of the use of data analytics techniques throughout all parts of the audit cycle to improve efficiency and enhance existing audit approaches
- Whilst not a requirement, experience within insurance or other financial services would be preferred
- Fluent in English, whilst French or German would be considered a bonus
- The ability to plan and organise an end to end audit with minimal day to day supervision, audit with the inherent flexibility to adapt the process as required
- A dynamic, assertive and self-confident individual who can deliver without the need for high levels of supervision
- Independent worker, resilient and self-reliant. Must also be confident delivering difficult messages to senior stakeholders and be comfortable drafting written reports in English (which will be shared at Group Committee and Board level)
- There will be some occasional travel involved, within Hiscox offices within but also outside of Europe.
- Strong people and relationship building skills, notably influencing and negotiating
- Excellent team working skills and the ability to supervise and coach other team members constructively and effectively
- Innovative problem-solving skills and the courage to apply them
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
