What you will do. A glimpse in your role:
As the subject matter expert (SME) for our F5 load balancer systems, you will support centralized IT infrastructures at Global Blue. This includes several business-critical, 24/7 production environments, as well as the provisioning of Global Blue's back-office IT services.
This role requires a deep understanding of F5 technologies and related concepts, along with a strong commitment to maintaining stability and performance at the highest standards.
Your responsibilities include:
F5 Load Balancer – Implementation & Configuration
Deploy and configure physical or virtual F5 BIG-IP appliances.
Create and manage Virtual Servers, Pools, Monitors, Profiles, and iRules.
Configure and manage SSL/TLS profiles.
Security & Compliance
Implement and fine-tune F5 Advanced WAF/ASM policies.
Ensure compliance with relevant security standards (e.g., PCI-DSS, SOX).
Collaborate with architecture teams and consultants to design secure and efficient F5 solutions.
Architecture & Design
Design load balancing, high availability, and application delivery architectures using BIG-IP LTM and ASM/Advanced WAF.
Define traffic management strategies, including iRules, SSL offloading, SNAT, and persistence.
Plan scalable and secure deployments across on-premise, cloud, or hybrid environments.
Monitoring, Logging & Troubleshooting
Use TMSH and tcpdump for traffic analysis and troubleshooting (e.g., SSL handshake issues).
Integrate logging with SIEM systems such as Splunk.
Monitor appliance and virtual server health using tools like Microsoft SCOM.
Automation & DevOps Integration
Automate deployments via REST APIs.
Integrate F5 configuration management into CI/CD pipelines.
Maintain version-controlled templates and configurations to ensure consistency and traceability.
Change Management & Documentation
Document solution designs, changes, operational procedures, and recovery steps.
Conduct disaster recovery testing, backups, and configuration synchronization.
Cloud & Multi-Platform Integration
Configure and manage F5 Virtual Editions (VE) in platforms such as Azure and Google Cloud Platform.
Leverage F5 Distributed Cloud Services.
Additional duties and responsibilities:
You may also be asked to assume SME roles in other areas within the team’s technology portfolio. These could include operating systems, backup, storage, or virtualization technologies. Specific responsibilities will be assigned based on your qualifications and interests.
Reporting and collaboration:
This position reports to the Manager of Compute Services and requires close collaboration with other internal teams, including Network, Application Support, and Service Desk.

Key competencies to empower your journey. You'll drive towards success if:
Bachelor’s degree in IT or a related field preferred; equivalent practical experience will also be considered
Minimum 5 years of professional experience as IT system engineer
Minimum 3 years of professional experience as IT system engineer in a medium to large enterprise environment with engineering and/or operations responsibility
Strong command of English, both spoken and written
Willingness and availability to participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation (approx. 1 week every 2 month)
Specific skills and knowledge:
Solid understanding of F5 technologies (BIG-IP, LTM, ASM/Advanced WAF), or equivalent experience in load balancing and application delivery
Excellent understanding of data center concepts
Experience with complex technical infrastructures with business-critical high availability requirements and large-scale environment (500+ virtual servers)
Scripting knowledge (e.g. Windows PowerShell, bash, tcl, Python)
IT security experience
Practice in writing documentation and technical papers
