About the Role
We are seeking an experienced, business-oriented Legal Counsel to join our Global Legal & Compliance team, based in Porto, with a focus on procurement, IT, and artificial intelligence (AI).
In this role, you will provide legal support on a wide range of supplier and technology contracts, contribute to strategic digital transformation and AI initiatives, and work in close collaboration with legal and business stakeholders across Europe. You will report to the Head of Legal – M&A, Procurement & Middle East, based in Geneva.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement:
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of supplier agreements, including goods, services, consulting, logistics, and capital expenditure.
- Support group-wide procurement projects and preferred supplier frameworks.
- Advise on contractual risks, supplier disputes, remedies, and compliance.
- Contribute to template development and negotiation guidelines for procurement and other HQ functions
IT & AI:
- Review and negotiate IT-related contracts (e.g., software licenses, SaaS, cloud services, outsourcing, cybersecurity).
- Support legal assessments for AI tools and innovation projects, including compliance with the GDPR, EU AI Act and other existing or emerging regulations.
- Identify legal and ethical risks related to data and technology use and propose pragmatic solutions.
- Work closely with Group Data Privacy and IT Security teams on aligned contracts and policy frameworks.
Coordination and Reporting:
- Act as the legal contact for procurement and IT/AI matters , and an integral member of the Group’s headquarters legal team.
- Provide timely and hands-on legal support on group-level contracts and projects, and contribute to legal initiatives across multiple jurisdictions as needed.
- Maintain regular coordination with the HQ legal and compliance team and other functions to ensure consistency and alignment.
Proactively identify and escalate material legal risks, and support strategic decision-making by delivering clear, commercially informed legal advice.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Law degree from a recognized university;
- Minimum 5 years of relevant legal experience, ideally in both law firm and in-house settings within an international environment.
Skills and Experience:
- Proven experience in commercial contracting, especially in procurement and IT.
- Strong contract drafting and negotiation skills.
- Strong interest in new technologies and eagerness to learn in a fast-evolving environment.
- Familiarity with NICT legal frameworks and digital transformation projects.
- Experience in regulated industries, notably healthcare or life sciences, is a plus.
- Ability to work autonomously while engaging with cross-functional teams.
- Fluent in English (working language); additional European languages are a plus.
